Love creating Magic: The Gathering content? You're in luck. Wizards of the Coast might soon reveal a new system for sharing your fan-made work.

In a brief article published this morning on Daily MTG, Content Manager Blake Rasmussen highlighted the Wizards of the Coast Fan Art Policy. The TL;DR of it: Fans can freely create content using Wizards intellectual property, so long as they mark it as unofficial, don't use it to hurt others or the company itself, and sponsor the content in the right way. Oh, and also, don't break any laws. The policy was last updated on November 15th of last year.

One might wonder why Rasmussen reminded fans about a policy that's been in place for months. In fact, he acknowledged the peculiar timing in his post. This is the explanation:

"Dominaria is coming up, and we know fans have a close connection with Dominaria, the characters, and basically everything about the world we're about to revisit. And we want to encourage fans to explore that through art! In fact, we plan to find ways to share your art with a wider audience when the time comes."

That last part is worth repeating: "We plan to find ways to share your art with a wider audience when the time comes."

This seems to hint at a new initiative from Magic and Wizards, one which will likely coincide with the release of DominariaPerhaps the recently redesigned Daily MTG homepage provides a hint, especially considering its greater focus on aggregating Magic content from around the internet. Just notice how many stories, videos, and podcast links redirect you to other sites. It's quite possible we could see a "From the Fans" area of Daily MTG sometime soon.

As with many exciting announcements from WOtC, we'll just have to be patient. In the meantime, enjoy creating that free content. Just make sure to play by the rules.
