Netflix's Lost in Space Trailer Looks Outstanding
Remember the Lost in Space of the 60s? It appears it's grown up.
Netflix just released the trailer for its upcoming TV series adapted from the same property. While the original series was somewhat comedic in tone, this new version looks significantly less so. Just take a look at the trailer:
Whoa. This reminds me more of Alien than its original source material.
Lost in Space is a science fiction drama about a family of five named the Robinsons. They and a handful of other space travelers crash land on an alien planet, prompting everyone to band together and find a way back home. The cast features Toby Stephens as John Robinson, Molly Parker as Maureen Robinson, and Parker Posey as Dr. Smith.
Based on what I've seen in this trailer, I'm most excited for the show's effects and scenery. Many of the visual elements, such as the ice planet and the enigmatic alien creature, look like big-budget film creations. I also appreciate the more serious tone which the series appears to have, since I believe it fits the circumstances of the story much better than comedy. After all, being lost in space isn't funny. It's scary!
Lost in Space premieres on Netflix on April 13th of this year. Tune in, and don't forget to bring your star map.
