Successful Game Industry Duo Starts New Board Game Company
Two game industry titans are teaming up to launch a brand new board game development and publication company. Earlier this morning, Jason Kapalka and Glenn Drover released a press release announcing the formation of their new company, Forbidden Games.
According to the announcement, everyone at Forbidden Games aims to "make board games that can be both accessible as well as deep; to produce fast, fun gateway games that can be as elegantly designed as a multi-hour miniatures-fest." Furthermore, their games will be designed to appeal to players of any experience level.
Hardcore gamers might recognize Jason Kapalka as PopCap Studios's co-founder and current chief game designer. This studio focuses primarily on mobile games; they're the creators of Plants vs. Zombies, Bejeweled, and the various sequels and spinoffs of both games. PopCap Studios is a subsidiary of Electronic Arts.
Forbidden Games's other co-founder, Glenn Drover, is the founder of Eagle-Gryphon Games. Eagle-Gryphon is a famous game design and game publishing company with a stuffed catalogue. Some of the company's most notable games include Incan Gold: The Race for Ancient Artifacts, Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization, and Railways of Europe.
This seems like an excellent pairing of two industry juggernauts. Drover has the first-hand experience of designing successful board games, while Kapalka brings an understanding of simple yet addictive gameplay. The two together should produce some excellent games.
