With the Streets of New Capenna prerelease weekend now behind us, it’s time to start looking forward to the official release! Coming out with this release, we’ll be getting Draft Booster Packs, Set Booster Packs, Collector Booster Packs, Bundles and 5 new preconstructed Commander Decks. There’s a ton of new sealed products coming out so let’s break down what you can expect to open and where!
Let’s start out by listing off all of the different alternate types of cards you can open:
- Extended Border Full Art Cards and Commander Deck Exclusive Full Arts
- Borderless Full Art Cards
- Showcase Border Cards
- Etched Foil Cards (Similar style to Showcase Border Cards, but with an metallic etched finish)
- Gilded Foil Cards (Similar style to Showcase Border Cards, but with a shiny gold finish)
- Phyrexian Cards (The only Pyrexian card in this set is Urabrask, Heretic Praetor)
- Cards from The List (Cards from The List are indicated by the small Planeswalker symbol in the bottom left hand corner of the card border, Sensei's Diving Top is one of many different cards on The List)
From here, we’ll break down which of these alternate versions you can find and in which products.
Draft Booster Packs
Draft Booster Packs are probably the type of packs most players are going to be familiar with. While these packs are typically more reserved for Booster Drafts now, they can definitely still be fun and exciting to open. Your average Draft Booster Pack will include:
- 10 Commons
- 3 Uncommons
- 1 Rare or Mythic
- 1 Basic Land, including a ⅓ chance to open a full art version
- 1 Token
- Chance to open a regular foil version of any card
Draft packs are a bit old fashioned now, but definitely still get the job done. Moving on to Set Booster Packs, we start to get into the exciting stuff.
Set Booster Packs
Set Booster Packs have been in Magic for a couple years now, so a lot of players will probably know about them by this point. These packs are specifically designed to be more fun to open, so they’re your best bet for getting some sweet and exciting pulls! These packs are where we start to see some of these different card variants. In New Capenna Set Booster Packs you have a chance to open:
- Streets of New Capenna Commander Deck exclusive cards
- 1 Gilded Foil or Traditional Foil Card per pack
- Chance to open Showcase Border Cards (potentially foil)
- Chance to open Borderless Cards (potentially foil)
- Chance to open Phyrexian Urabrask (potentially foil)
- 1 Guaranteed Rare or Mythic
- 3 Traditional Uncommons
- 3 Traditional Commons
- 33% chance for a Full Art Basic Land (potentially foil)
- 25% chance for a card from The List (specialized list of reprints)
- 1 Art Card, 5% chance to get a Signed version
These packs definitely have a lot more variants available to open over Draft Booster Packs. With all these extra versions, these may be the packs for you if you’re looking for some pretty exciting stuff from this set! That being said, we still haven’t checked out our most exciting pack type yet.
Collector Booster Packs
Collector Booster Packs are Magic’s highest level of booster packs, reflected by their higher price point. These packs have also been around for a while now, so they're fairly well known by now. These packs include 5 rares or mythics total, as well as 4 foil commons and 2 foil uncommons, which is pretty sweet all on its own. When we start to look at the different variants of cards we can open, we can see what really makes these packs exciting:
- GIlded Foil Cards
- Etched Foil Showcase Cards
- Phyrexian Cards
- Showcase Border Rares or Mythics
-Traditional Foil Rares or Mythics
- Extended Full Art Cards
- Extended Full Art Commander Deck Exclusive Cards
- Showcase Border Commons and Uncommons
- 100% chance of opening a foil Full Art Basic Land
These packs are the real deal, and offer a way to open a ton of different variants of cards all in one place! Collector Booster Packs are the way to go if you’re really looking for something shiny and new for your collection.
Alongside these three different Booster Pack variants, we’ll also be getting Bundles and 5 different Preconstructed Commander Decks.
Bundles
Streets of New Capenna Bundles are fairly similar to the Bundles we have seen over the past few releases. These will include:
- 8 Streets of New Capenna Set Booster Packs
- New Capenna themed Storage Box
- 1 Traditional Foil alternate art Mysterious Limousine
- 40 Basic Land cards, 20 of which are foil
- 1 oversized 20 sided spindown life counter
Bundles are always a great way to get a few packs in from a new set. These products have been changed a few times over the years, but it looks like they’ll be following this formula for the time being.
Streets of New Capenna Commander Decks
This set has 5 new preconstructed Commander Decks releasing alongside it. These decks are focused around the 5 three colored factions of New Capenna, with each deck introducing a ton of new cards to the game! There’s so much depth to these decks, we actually already have another article covering them that you can check out here! We plan to have more articles going over how to upgrade these decks coming soon, so stay tuned for more info on Streets of New Capenna Commander!
Hope everyone has an exciting Streets of New Capenna release weekend, and nothing but the best pulls in all your new packs!
