What’s the difference between a board game and a tabletop game?+

Board games typically feature a board that is the center of gameplay. Tabletop games, however, are much more broad. Virtually any game that can be played on a table (or any surface) can be considered a tabletop game. All board games are tabletop games, but not all tabletop games are board games.

What are adult strategy board games?+

Strategy games made for adults typically have more complicated rules and greater time investment than most young players would have patience for. They may also involve darker and more mature themes. These unique board games are perfect for game night with friends.

The easy answer is a game like chess, checkers, or go that predates the modern gaming industry by hundreds (if not thousands) of years. However, Monopoly is the most sold modern game (i.e., games designed and released by a single publisher) of all time.

What makes a board game “cooperative”?+

In a cooperative board game, players have to work together to beat a single entity, such as a gamemaster or challenges from the game itself. This is different from “competitive” board games, where players compete with one another for resources, points, or victory conditions.

What is a “party game”?+

Party games are meant for large social gatherings, but they also range in size, time, and complexity. This could be a larger-than-usual gathering of seven or eight people playing an adult strategy board game or a large group of 15 people playing a game like Scattergories.
