Searching Standard: Whimsicott ex Wall

Hello and welcome to another episode of Searching Standard, where each and every week I look for new, innovative decks for you to play in Standard. This week, I'm looking at a deck that was recently featured on the YouTube channel of LittleDarkFury. It features Whimsicott ex WHT 5, who is capable of quickly accelerating the Energy you have in play. Let's get started by taking a look at the deck list.

By using Whimsicott ex WHT 5's Energy Gift attack, you'll be able to attach up to 4 Energy in a single turn. Since this attack allows you to search your deck for the Basic Energy cards to attach, your only worry will be that all of your Prize cards are Energy. However, since there are 13 total Energy in this deck, it shouldn't be much of a concern. Whimsicott ex WHT 5 can also be a good attacker once you've powered up your other Pokemon. Its Wondrous Cotton attack deals 50 damage for each Trainer card in your opponent's hand. Get a glimpse of their upcoming plans while dealing some damage. One more thing to remember with Whimsicott ex WHT 5 is that it has no Retreat Cost, so if it's in danger of getting Knocked Out, you can send it to the safety of your Bench.

Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex TWM 112 is the first of three 'Wall' Pokemon in this deck. Its Cornerstone Stance Ability prevents all damage done to it from your opponent's Pokemon with Abilities. It has the Demolish attack, which isn't affected by Weakness or Resistance or by any affects your opponent's Active Pokemon might have.

Crustle DRI 12 is our second 'Wall' Pokemon. Its Mysterious Rock Inn Ability prevents it from taking any damage from an opponent's Pokemon ex. Similar to Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex TWM 112, Crustle DRI 12's Superb Scissors attack is not affected by any effects on your opponent's Active Pokemon.

The third and final 'Wall' Pokemon in this deck is Farigiraf ex TEF 108. Its Armor Tail Ability prevents damage to it from an opponent's Basic Pokemon ex. By attacking with its Dirty Beam attack, you'll deal 160 damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon and an additional 30 damage to one of their Benched Pokemon.

By utilizing Munkidori TWM 95's Adrena-Brain Ability, you can move some of the damage your team has taken to your opponent's Pokemon. Doing this will soften them up and make them easier to Knock Out with future attacks.

To help make your 'Walls' even more difficult to Knock Out, you can attach the ACE SPEC from this deck, Hero's Cape TEF 152, to one of them. This will increase their HP by +100. There's also a copy of Picnic Basket SVI 184 you can play that will heal each Pokemon in play by 30 HP.

To help you find the Pokemon you need more easily, this deck relies on the typical blend of Trainer cards commonly seen in most decks. Artazon PAL 171 and Nest Ball PAF 84 can help you find the Basic Pokemon you need, while Ultra Ball PAF 91 is best used to find evolutions.

Also found in most decks are cards that allow you to draw additional cards. There's no Supporter in Standard that's better at doing this than Professor's Research PRE 122. Alternatively, if your opponent has a Bench full of Pokemon, you might consider playing Morty's Conviction TEF 155. There's also a playset of Iono PAL 185 in this deck, and while she looks like a way to draw new cards (which she is), her primary function is to reset your opponent's hand, which will potentially slow down their momentum.

Since each of your 'Walls' has a specific requirement for them to prevent any damage from being taken, you'll want to use Boss’s Orders PAL 172 to be able to choose which Pokemon your opponent has in their Active Spot. For those times you need to make a quick getaway, you can attach Air Balloon BLK 79 to a Pokemon to reduce its Retreat Cost by 2 Energy.

The final batch of Trainer cards are typically found in many Standard decks. Earthen Vessel PAR 163 helps you find Energy you might need, but there's only a single copy of it in this deck because you'll likely find most of your Energy when you use Whimsicott ex WHT 5's Energy Gift attack. Night Stretcher SFA 61 offers you the chance to reuse a Pokemon or Basic Energy that has gone to your discard pile. Finally, Pokégear 3.0 SVI 186 can be a great way of finding an important Supporter you need, provided that it's in the top 7 cards of your deck.

Wrapping Up

By using Whimsicott ex WHT 5's Energy Gift attack, you can quickly power up your other Pokemon that have Abilities preventing them from taking damage from specific types of Pokemon. Attack with impunity, and watch as your opponent's frustration grows, since they'll be unable to damage your 'Walls'.
