Searching Standard: Maushold ex - Revisited

Hello and welcome to another episode of Searching Standard, where each and every week I look for new, innovative decks for you to play in Standard. This week, I'm looking at a deck that was recently featured on the YouTube channel of LittleDarkFury. It features Maushold ex PAR 155, a Pokemon your opponent might regret attacking. By utilizing Maushold ex PAR 155's Solidarity Ability, you'll be able to place 3 damage counters on your opponent's Active Pokemon for each Maushold ex, Maushold, and Tandemaus you have in play whenever your Maushold ex PAR 155 is damaged by an attack. That can make your opponent leery to attack, giving you time to attack with Maushold ex PAR 155's Nom-Nom-Nom Incisors attack, which deals 120 damage and allows you to draw 2 cards. There's also a copy of Maushold PAF 74 in this deck that can deal a lot of damage with its Family Attack attack. This can be especially handy if you need to Knock Out an opposing Pokemon quickly.

For back-up attackers, this deck relies on Lycanroc JTG 85 and Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex TWM 141. You can quickly power up Lycanroc JTG 85's Clamping Fangs attack with its Spike-Clad Ability. Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex TWM 141 also has an Ability, Seasoned Skill, that helps you use its attack, Blood Moon, more easily.

The remaining Pokemon in this deck are all useful due to their interesting Abilities. Fezandipiti ex SFA 38's Flip the Script Ability offers you some much needed card draw for those times you have a Pokemon get Knocked Out. Munkidori TWM 95's Adrena-Brain Ability can be used to move some damage from your Pokemon to your opponent's Pokemon. Keep your team healthy while damaging your opponent's team. Finally, Lillie's Clefairy ex JTG 56 has the Fairy Zone Ability, changing the Weakness of your opponent's Dragon-Type Pokemon so that they are weak to Psychic-Type Pokemon. While this is a very situational Ability, you'll be happy to have it when it matters.

Both Deluxe Bomb SCR 134 and Vengeful Punch OBF 197 provide additional reasons for your opponent not to attack your team. Deluxe Bomb SCR 134 allows you to put 12 damage counters on your opponent's attacking Pokemon if the Pokemon it is attached to is in your Active Spot and damaged by an attack. Vengeful Punch OBF 197 only works if the Pokemon it is attached to is Knocked Out by your opponent's attack, but if this happens, you'll get to put 4 damage counters on the attacking Pokemon.

The next batch of Trainer cards all help you find the Basic Pokemon you need. Artazon PAL 171 helps you search for any Pokemon without a Rule Box, but your opponent will also be able to benefit from having this Location in play. Buddy-Buddy Poffin PRE 101 can find a pair of pokemon with up to 70 HP to put onto your Bench. Finally, Nest Ball SVI 181 can find any Basic Pokemon.

To help you find any Pokemon you might need, there are 3 copies of Ultra Ball SVI 196. But, if you need to find Energy for your team, Crispin SCR 133 is here to help. You'll be able to attach the Energy you find to a single Pokemon, if you'd like, or split them up amongst 2 different Pokemon. Also helping you search your deck for specific things is Arven SVI 166. You've already seen the Pokemon Tools you can search for, and there are a number of other great Items he can help you find.

Sometimes, you'll need to find multiple things, so searching for specific cards isn't as useful as drawing multiple cards. For pure card drawing ability, there's nothing better than Professor's Research PRE 123 for drawing additional cards. If your opponent has a full Bench, Morty's Conviction TEF 155 can be very helpful, allowing you to draw up to 5 cards without having any game-changing Stadiums in play. Iono PAL 185 can also be a way to draw a lot of new cards, but since she also forces your opponent to draw a new hand, you can also slow down your opponent's momentum when you play her.

To be able to attack your opponent's Pokemon as effectively as possible, you'll want to use Boss’s Orders PAL 172 and Counter Catcher PAR 160 to choose which of their Pokemon to be in their Active Spot. Rescue Board PRE 126 can be attached to one of your Pokemon to make it easier to retreat, which can be especially useful if your opponent changes your Active Pokemon with one from your Bench.

Both Night Stretcher SFA 61 and Super Rod PAL 188 offer you the means of reusing cards that have gone to your discard pile. Night Stretcher SFA 61 puts a single Basic Energy or Pokemon back into your hand, while Super Rod PAL 188 shuffles up to 3 Basic Energies or Pokemon into your deck. The final Trainer in the deck is Pokégear 3.0 SVI 186, which offers you a way to find Supporter cards from the top of your deck a little more easily than simply drawing them.

Wrapping Up

If you want to make it difficult for your opponent to attack you, you'll want to give this deck a try. Maushold ex PAR 155's Solidarity Ability can even make it impossible for your opponent to win if the damage they receive from attacking you causes you to draw your final Prize card before they can.

What do you think of this deck? Do you have any suggestions for improvements? Let me know by leaving a comment below. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in the Pokemon TCG. I'll see you then!
