Will the First Solo Trailer Premiere During the Super Bowl?
For those who pay closer attention to the commercials than they do the Super Bowl itself, we've got good news. According to reports, Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm will likely release their first Solo: A Star Wars Story trailer during this Sunday's tilt between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots.
Solo follows a young version of everyone's favorite smuggler Han Solo during his pre-original trilogy adventures. Alden Ehrenreich will star as the titular character, along with Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian. Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson and Paul Bettany are set to appear as original characters. Ron Howard will direct, and the father-son duo of Lawrence and Jake Kasdan will write the screenplay. The film's official release date is May 25, 2018.
Star Wars fans are eagerly awaiting promotional material for the film, yet nothing, not even a poster, has been released thus far. Some speculate that Disney and Lucasfilm would prefer to wait until Star Wars: The Last Jedi has concluded its theatrical run. Others suggest the studios have been waiting for the perfect platform (which makes the Super Bowl scenario even more likely). In any case, Disney is still playing it coy; they've declined to comment.
If the trailer does premiere, we're hoping to see Chewbacca roars, sweeping shots of the Millenium Falcon, and Han's signature "Yahoo!" exclamation. And is a second Darth Vader cameo too much to ask?
To find out once and for all, tune into Super Bowl LII this Sunday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 pm on NBC.
