Marvel Revives Thor for Fresh Start Initiative
As part of their fresh start initiative, Marvel Comics will release a new beginning to Thor's comic series, fittingly entitled Thor #1. This new issue will chronicle how Thor reclaims his mantle as God of Thunder and his subsequent quest to reclaim lost Asgardian artifacts.
In Marvel's comic continuity, Jane Foster has been serving as the new Thor since 2014. However, with the "Death of the Mighty Thor" story arc upcoming, Foster's imminent passing will pave the way for the original Thor to reclaim his title.
This move comes fresh off the heels of Marvel Studios's Thor: Ragnarok, which performed very well among audiences and critics alike. The film has certainly generated renewed interest in Thor, so the timing seems right for his return to the page.
If you're wondering about the fresh start, Marvel officially announced it on their Youtube channel earlier this month. The initiative aims to reboot and reimagine classic characters, while providing fans with a new entry point. Some fans were confused by the decision, however, since Marvel Comics had already announced a brand reboot, entitled Marvel Legacy, just a few months prior. At any rate, this new version of Thor will be one of the first in the fresh start line.
Thor #1 is written by current The Mighty Thor writer Jason Aaron and illustrated by Mike Del Mundo. The pair previously collaborated on Secret Wars: Weirdworld. Look for Thor to return to comic book shelves June 13th.
