FAQ

What are good starter Bandai model kits?

Whether you’re just getting started or looking to get your friends into the hobby, we recommend starting with kits that have fewer pieces and simpler designs. Some, like Gundam kits, denote difficulty by labels (look for “HG” or “SD” for beginners). Most importantly, the best kit is one that you or your friend will enjoy building and displaying!

What tools should I use for building my kits?

Having the right tools is important for any project, including model kits! Regarding Bandai plastic model kits, we recommend, at the very least, investing in a good quality nipper and sanding sticks. Others find cutting mats, X-Acto or Excel blades, tweezers, and more delicate nippers for the “second cut” to further refine the nibs before sanding.

How big are most Bandai model kits?

Bandai model kits vary greatly by size. You have plenty to choose from, ranging from miniature “chibi” builds that can fit on the smallest workspace, to larger ships and robots you’ll need to make room for. Read the box thoroughly for specifications for the kit you’re looking at, including for scale, and otherwise do not hesitate to ask us

How do I check the scale size of Bandai model kits?

Many Bandai kits come with numbers like “1/64” or “1/100” on them, which is a helpful reference to show how large the kit would be in real life. In other words, if the box of an Evangelion mech shows “1/144,” that means what you’re building would be 144 times larger in “real” life!

What are Bandai’s “30 Minute Mission” model kits?

As the name suggests, these kits are intended to be built quickly and inexpensively, but there’s more to it than meets the eye! “30MM” is also popular because the parts are all at 1/144 scale and are designed to be easily interchangeable, meaning that your own “30-minute mission” to kitbash and build an entirely new creation is also part of the fun.
