Yu-Gi-Oh! Rogue Report: Ars Magnet (Ars Magna Magnet Warrior)

Language barriers are one of the foremost means of separating the TCG & OCG, for Yugioh. Beyond the literal differences in our format and cardpools, the actual languages in which the game is discussed create a stopgap, especially when the languages in question aren’t Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. In the smaller regions of the game, however, certain innovations have taken place (Paleo, for one) which compound and snowball, resulting in butterfly effects for the larger format. I intend to get in at ground zero, for this strategy, and I’ve had to enlist the help of a friend of mine who speaks Indonesian to do so. By cobbling together topping lists from a variety of Southeast Asia’s best players, and tinkering for our own TCG limitations, I’ve stumbled upon one of the best combo decks in the format, and while it’s less resilient than Elfnote, it’s not only more explosive, but manages to slot in the new meta’s best debut package, the Ars Magna. It even has a stellar name, courtesy of a simple portmanteau: Ars Magnet. Join me as we take one of 2026’s best Rogue decks, in Magnet Warrior, and see it evolve before our very eyes.

We need to work backwards, in talking about what this deck seeks to accomplish. Our endgoal, per Muhammad Ramadikal Kahfi—the deck’s originator—is to Special Summon Nerva the Power Patron of Creation via its alternate summoning condition, to a zone Cross-Sheep points to, with Protector of the Sanctuary in the GY, by Tributing at least Clown Crew Dristy. That sounds like a lot, but it’s shockingly simple, and utilizes one of the game’s quirkiest little rules. See, normally you’re unable to activate Dristy while Protector of the Sanctuary is on the board, as it prevents her draw effect. This stops handloops…right? Well, if she activates as Chain Link 1, and Protector is Summoned as Chain Link 2 or higher, her effect has already attempted to go off and thus cannot be stopped, so if it resolves with Protector onboard, you shuffle and draw a new hand, while your opponent merely shuffles. That’s right. This takes your opponent’s hand, and shuffles it into the deck, essentially. There’s no way getting to Protector is easy though, given it isn’t part of an archetype, right? Another unfortunate truth is that this format has an absolute wealth of options, when we’re looking to find degenerate combo pieces like Protector.

There are three main paths to Protector: Witch of the Black Forest, accessible via Dark Magical Curtain, Shooting Riser Dragon, & Zenna's Deceiving Doll Maidens. Witch is fairly self-explanatory, just being a card you can now readily Special Summon from deck via a great Spell, to the point where there might be a world it gets banned again, after having been on the Forbidden & Limited List for a decade. Riser is a Level 7 Synchro, and Zenna’s is a Link-5, and for each of those, we need a ton of bodies. There is also Subspace Battle, although that failed to make the cut due to the need for non-engine. One card which nicely ties together these pieces is Awakening of the Possessed - Nefariouser Archfiend, which can arrive from your Main Deck by getting rid of a Spellcaster & Earth, providing additional synergy with Witch. If it revives a Level 2 Tuner, that results in a Shooting Riser, although it can just as easily get an Ash and make a 7 via it and a 4. If we’re looking for ways to swarm with Earth monsters (with Aussa the Earth Charmer, Immovable being another great Spellcaster to send), Magnet Warrior fits the bill.

One other thing of note is that both Witch (and conceivably Subspace Battle) can search the starter for Magnet Warrior, Conduction Warrior Linear Magnum Plus Minus. Due to the way he gets you off to the races, via sending cards as part of a summoning condition rather than an effect, the fact he’s otherwise negated is a nonissue. If you already have access to Linear Magnum, by way of opening him or searching the card via Magnet Bonding, you can of course get something different with Witch, but just note that Curtain is a starter for every aspect of this list. From there, you bin Sigma Plus and Epsilon, use Sigma Plus to Summon Epsilon, then Summon Sigma Plus to send Sigma Minus and Tellusion, the Magna Warrior. From there, the world is your oyster, and all without need of the Normal Summon. In the OCG, when you make Gallant Granite it’s to search either Barrier Statue or Block Dragon…yet both of those cards are banned, stateside. Instead, we’re flexing Granite to get Adamancipator Researcher, or Nibiru out of the board.

This is a fantastic time to now mention the Ars Magna, the newest addition to the Medius lore. This is a set of 3 Main Deck Monsters which each banish themselves from the hand for an effect, and form a recursive loop in some way. The core line by which all three are accessed is via Ars Magna the Finite and the Infinite into The Corruption and the Purification, into their Spell Ars Magna "Citrinitas", into The Division and the Union. Mouthful names aside, this ends up with three highly recursive bodies that proc when you Summon a Link, or their respective supertype. The thing is, The Division and the Union is a Spellcaster, and that means it’s fodder for Nefariouser Archfiend. These also all have different types, which matters for Nerva’s alternate summoning condition, because that is worth keeping in mind. This little 6-card package is fantastic fodder for any deck looking to Linkspam, and Magnet Warrior doubles down by having additional utility for many of its monster card types. Even our low-ceiling hand ends on Naturia Beast, and three live Spell Speed 2 Ars Magnas, via the continuous effect of Citrinitas.

So this deck clearly has strengths going first, but that’s hardly anything new. I want to stress, however, that this is the single-scariest deck in the format going first, because uninterrupted, it affords no counterplay. There is however a new card in Beyond the Brave which has garnered discussion, as the single-best going second card printed in years: The Great Gallant Bandit. This is essentially a Lava Golem that arrives on your side of the board, directly powercreeping a card which has appeared sporadically in Side Decks since the early 2000s. The negate is also relevant, of course, as a means to help you go second, but in being unsearchable he plays more like a Mulcharmy than anything else. This is also the most contentious card in this list, not because we’d ever remove him from our list, but that we’re potentially precluded from playing Subspace Battle because he simply exists. If we ever fail to reveal a monster with ≥2500 ATK, our opponent will almost certainly have the opportunity to reveal the Thief, and disrupt our board…if they have a hand at the end of things. See, our intention is to shuffle their whole hand back, which often removes the downside of Battle; Thief isn’t so much a problem, if we’re able to fully execute our combo. Savvy opponents, however, can wait to allow us to force them to add the Thief to hand, then deploy interaction, keeping a way of beating our board that we gave them. I think it may still be worthwhile, but as I’m a risk-averse player I have not included it in the featured decklist. Just know slapping 3 copies in here is entirely reasonable.

For our Side, Muhammad has opted to play a Jizukiru, the Star Destroying Kaiju as a high-ATK option to search with Subspace Battle, as well as additional copies of Duoterion, Koa’ki Meiru Guardian, and Protector of the Sanctuary. These are all in service of slamming the combo through Droll, which can disrupt us. Also present is a few cards we don’t yet have, such as Mind Mirror Force, or triplicate Triple Tactics Talent (It’s at 1 here). One funny card that’s seen in the deck’s second topping list is Gate Blocker, which is a hedge against Toons via negating their Field Spell. That being said, it’s about as expected, with half the Side generally dedicated to making going first easier, and the other half to assisting going second. I’m a huge advocate for Purulia this format, so bear that in mind over Ash Blossom going second.

The specificity of this list is remarkable, and I’m quite proud with where it ended up. I do think Subspace Battle has a role, maybe even in the Side, but I prefer Curtain for its non-engine slots. I wanted to feature Muhammad’s original list as well, just to show how I’ve adapted some of it for the TCG’s banlist and sensibilities, because I do think it’s a remarkably innovative deck. Magnet Warrior has been on the fringes of the meta for months at this point, and needed some kind of X-factor to really allow it to break into the meta. Ars Magna, and by extension, this handloop, is that X-factor. In testing I’ve been floored by the relative competence of this strategy, even going second. We have about ~3 flex slots in the Extra Deck, which I’ve dedicated to Beast, S:P Little Knight, and a curious admission from the original list, Mediclius the Extraordinary Power Patron. This is a fantastic midrange top end for the deck, so if you can’t fully combo off he remains to represent two pieces of interaction.

Play this deck while you can, because I don’t believe it will remain fully legal after the next list! If you’re looking for something devilish and Rogue to bring to locals, Regionals, or even a YCS, I would genuinely look here as a potential starting point. No language barrier there.

What do you think about Ars Magnet? Is this a healthy deck for the game, and more importantly, is it actually powerful? Are there hidden gems in Beyond the Brave you want to see me cover? Let me know in the comments below!
