Storyline
In Magic: The Gathering Secrets of Strixhaven, the main characters are returning once again. You can expect to see Dina, Rootha Squallheart, and Killian Lu practicing their magic beyond the school walls. There will also be five new characters introduced in this sequel who are just beginning their school journey, choosing their colleges, and familiarizing themselves with the school. You can also expect some overlap with the Lorwyn story.
The school houses all look like they’re going to be the same, including Lorehold: College of Archaeomancy (Red and White), Prismari: College of Elemental Arts (Red and Blue), Quandrix: College of Numeromancy (Green and Blue), Silverquill: College of Eloquence (White and Black), and Witherbloom: College of Essence Studies (Green and Black).
Completely separate from the Secrets of Strixhaven release is also the graphic novel by Seanan McGuire. Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos follows the school’s first class of interplanar students! These students arrive at Arcavios having traveled through the Omenpaths.
Promo Cards

With the aforementioned graphic novel, you will receive the Command Tower promo card from Magic: The Gathering: Secrets of Strixhaven, which features a Land that allows you to add one mana of any color from your commander’s identity. The stunning artwork, illustrated by Ron Spears, showcases an organic, earthy structure rising into the sky.
We’re also expecting faction- and school-based art sleeves, playmats, and logos, as well as five confirmed precons.

Update 1/27/26:
New Secrets of Strixhaven spoilers have begun to surface, giving players their first look at what to expect from this return to the world of Arcavios. Early previews showcase cards from the main set alongside extended art and borderless treatments that reinforce Strixhaven’s magical, academic identity.
Mystical Archive Returns
One of the biggest confirmed features is the return of the Mystical Archive. These special instant and sorcery reprints will once again appear in Secrets of Strixhaven, featuring Strixhaven-themed artwork on old fan favorites. Mystical Archive cards are expected to include both traditional and alternate art versions, making them a major highlight for both competitive players and collectors.

Secrets of Strixhaven Commander Decks

In addition to main set spoilers, Secrets of Strixhaven will include five new Commander preconstructed decks, each aligned with a Strixhaven college. These decks introduce new Legendary creatures designed to embody each school’s philosophy and mechanical identity.
Lorehold Commander Deck (Red/White)
The Lorehold Commander deck is centered on history and the graveyard, emphasizing recursion, Spirit tokens, and generating value from past spells and permanents. This deck reflects Lorehold’s focus on archaeology and rediscovering lost magic.

Prismari Commander Deck (Red/Blue)
The Prismari Commander deck is built around spellcasting and expressive magic, rewarding players for casting instants and sorceries while producing large, flashy effects. This strategy mirrors Prismari’s artistic and elemental approach to magic.

Quandrix Commander Deck (Green/Blue)
The Quandrix Commander deck focuses on numbers, patterns, and mathematical magic. It leans into counters, token scaling, and manipulating stats and resources to create overwhelming board states through calculated growth.

Silverquill Commander Deck (White/Black)
The Silverquill Commander deck is designed around rhetoric and influence, using political play, buffs, and life manipulation to control the table. This strategy represents Silverquill’s mastery of words, intimidation, and persuasion.

Witherbloom Commander Deck (Green/Black)
The Witherbloom Commander deck is rooted in life and death magic, centering on life gain, sacrifice, and draining opponents while sustaining its own board state. This approach captures Witherbloom’s blend of decay and renewal.

These Commander decks give EDH players a flavorful way to explore Strixhaven’s colleges while offering ready-to-play 100-card lists that expand the set’s reach beyond Standard and Draft formats.
What to Expect Next
As more Secrets of Strixhaven spoilers are revealed, players can expect previews of additional cards, mechanics, and themed strategies that expand the story beyond the Strixhaven campus. With the return of the Mystical Archive and the inclusion of five new Commander decks, Secrets of Strixhaven is shaping up to be a great new chapter in the Strixhaven storyline.
