Magic Foundations Art Showcase
Magic: Foundations it the latest "core set" introduced to Magic: The Gathering. This set introduces a ton of brand new cards, as well as a wide variety of reprints that will make up the new "foundation" of the game for years to come. Since this set is comprised of a ton of different cards, that means it also comes with a ton of new artwork! Foundations features cards and characters from multiple Magic planes, so the art we can find in this set is derived from all across the Blind Eternities. Lets start off by checking out some of the brand new full art lands!
Basic Lands
The full art basic lands from this set show off a few of Magics most well know planes. These feature classic planes like Innistrad, Kamigawa, Dominaria, Theros, and some more recently introduced like New Capenna and Arcavios. A few characters can also be spotted in these artworks, which is a nice touch.
This set also features the return of Rebecca Guay's cycle of basic land art. These lands originally released as promos back in 2017, so it's nice to see them return in such a large set.
Planeswalkers
Foundations sees the return of a few older Planeswalker cards, as well as two new ones in Kaito, Cunning Infiltrator and Chandra, Flameshaper. Although we may have seen some of these cards before, the full art variants introduce brand new art for each Planeswalker. Honestly the full arts for these cards all look great, but the Chandra does stand out to me with her swirling flames.
Iconic Mythic Creatures
These five mythic rare creatures each account for one of each colors most iconic creature types; a white angel, blue sphinx, black vampire, red dragon, and green wurm. Both the regular and full art variants of each of these new cards are quite impressive. The art of Twinflame Tyrant and Quilled Greatwurm really give you a sense of their massive scale, while Herald of Eternal Dawn and Sphinx of Forgotten Lore both come off as majestic and ethereal beings.
Showcase Borders
The showcase cards from this set feature a really unique style. I really like the design of keeping the black borders on the edge while allowing some effects to go off panel. Day of Judgement, Bloodthirsty Conqueror, and Llanowar Elves look really great in this style. And of course, this showcase Doubling Season may be the best card in the set.
Borderless Cards
Foundations features a ton of really fantastic looking borderless cards. There were honestly so many that it was harder to break them down into further subsections, so I just included all of the rest of them here.
Special Guests
Misc Cool Art
This set has so many cards with so much great art, it's hard to cover it all at once! To close things out I wanted to highlight a few more individual card arts that really stood out to me. I hope everyone enjoys Foundations art as much as I have so far!
