Searching Standard: Triple V-Union
Hello and welcome to another episode of Searching Standard, where each and every week I look for new, innovative decks for you to play in Standard. This week, I'm looking at a deck that was recently featured on the YouTube channel of LittleDarkFury. It features three different V-UNION Pokemon working in tandem to dominate matches. Let's get started by taking a look at the deck list.
Pikachu V-UNION is the first of three V-UNION Pokemon included in this deck. Its most useful attack will likely be Disconnect. Using this attack will lock your opponent out of being able to play any Item cards from their hand during their next turn. This is a great way of stopping them from searching their deck for specific Pokemon with various Poke Balls or other Items.
Mewtwo V-UNION has a lot of useful attacks. Its Final Burn attack will deal a whopping 300 damage, allowing you to Knock Out many opposing Pokemon with a single attack. Psysplosion is a great way to take out multiple Pokemon at once. It allows you to place 16 damage counters on your opponent's Pokemon in any way you'd like. Spread this damage around to make Knock Outs easier. Mewtwo V-UNION also has the Super Regeneration attack that allows it to heal 200 damage from itself. By keeping in the battle longer, you'll make it more difficult for your opponent to win any of their Prize cards.
The final V-UNION Pokemon, Greninja V-UNION, has a pair of attacks that can help you out. Twister Shuriken deals 100 damage to each of your opponent's Benched Pokemon. You might be able to Knock Out multiple Pokemon with a single use of this attack. Waterfall Bind is a great attack to use when you want to keep your opponent's Active Pokemon locked in place. Your opponent can't retreat their Active Pokemon during their next turn, plus you'll deal 180 damage to it.
Arceus VSTAR BRS 123 is very useful in tying everything together in this deck. With its Starbirth Ability as its VSTAR Power, you'll be able to search your deck for any two cards to put into your hand. This can help you find half of whichever V-UNION Pokemon you need. Arceus VSTAR BRS 123 also has the Trinity Nova attack that will deal 200 damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon while also helping to power up your other V-UNION Pokemon.
With Galarian Meowth RCL 126's Evolution Roar Ability, you have an easy method of discarding two cards from your hand each turn. You'll never find a copy of Galarian Perrserker to put into your hand (there isn't one in the deck), but you can still continue discarding turn after turn. You'll also never be able to attack with Galarian Meowth RCL 126, as there is no Metal Energy in this deck. Keep Galarian Meowth RCL 126 parked on your Bench and use it to discard V-UNION Pokemon cards.
This first batch of Trainer cards also help you discard cards. Both Quick Ball SSH 179 and Ultra Ball BRS 150 help you find the Pokemon you need from your deck, while also helping you discard V-UNION Pokemon from your hand. Professor's Research BRS 147 has you discard your entire hand before drawing a new hand of seven cards. It's a terrific way to dump a lot of V-UNION Pokemon into your discard pile all at once.
Adventurer's Discovery FST 224 is a great way to search your deck for three Pokemon V cards to put into your hand. Use this to either help find V-UNION Pokemon for you to then get into your discard pile, or to help find Arceus VSTAR BRS 123 or Arceus V BRS 122. Peonia CRE 149 can help you find any V-UNION Pokemon pieces that are trapped in your Prize cards. Finally, with Marnie CPA 56, you'll be able to reset your hand, providing you with new options while also resetting your opponent's hand, hopefully offering them worse choices than they had before.
Trekking Shoes ASR 156 is a great way to put the top card of your deck into your discard pile, while still drawing another card. This is especially good if the top card of your deck happens to be a V-UNION Pokemon card. PokéStop PGO 68 is another great way to get cards from your deck into your discard pile. While you might end up with some cards in your discard pile that are not V-UNION Pokemon cards, you'll still find PokéStop PGO 68 to be a helpful way to get your V-UNION Pokemon active.
In order to take the most Prize cards you can when you attack, you can play Boss's Orders BRS 132 to switch your opponent's Active Pokemon with a Pokemon from their Bench. You'll usually want to do this to guarantee that you'll score a Knock Out and be able to draw multiple Prize cards. Choice Belt BRS 135 can be attached to your Pokemon to deal additional damage to an opponent's Active Pokemon V. That extra damage will help you score Knock Out's a little easier.
This last pair of cards are general all-purpose cards for this deck. Tool Jammer BST 136 can be very helpful against certain decks, but could be useless against others. Energy Recycler BST 124 offers you a great way of shuffling up to five Basic Energy cards from your discard pile back into your deck. This can be very helpful, since space for Energy cards is always limited in most decks.
Wrapping Up
For a deck featuring three V-UNION Pokemon, this deck is remarkably consistent. Once you get your first V-UNION Pokemon into play, many opponents will concede on the spot. For those that don't, they're sure to be in for a world of hurt. You can even find yourself able to get all three V-UNION Pokemon into play during the same game. If you're looking for a deck to play that is surprisingly good and fun to play, give this one a shot.
What do you think of this deck? Do you have any suggestions for improvements? Let me know by leaving a comment below. And be sure to join me here again next week as I continue my search for innovative decks in the Pokemon TCG. I'll see you then!
